Road Trip Tips & Tricks
Thinking about that upcoming road trip, but concerned about what could go wrong? We have several tips and tricks to ensure that you have a great time on the road. A quick check of some critical components of your vehicle will bring less stressful travel.
- Always check your tire pressure, lights, and overall mechanical condition of your car before leave home and be realistic with your planning. Do not set goals that require long days of driving on busy highways in order to meet a reservation or deadline!
- Take a break if you find your attention wandering or if you feel drowsy. Avoid cruise control on wet and slippery roads. GPS is great, but it’s better to plan your trip with a map so you can stay on the roads YOU prefer.
- Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle that includes jumper cables, flares, bottled water and healthy snacks in the summer. In the winter, carry enough blankets, candles, water and snacks for the amount of passengers plus flares and a shovel.
- Check travel info websites and webcams before you leave so you are prepared for the latest travel conditions.
- Avoid travelling at peak times through major cities and at the start of holidays and weekends. Always wear your seat belt and insist that others in your vehicle do the same. Use a hands free device if you must talk on your cell phone and NEVER text while driving!!!
